A woman will always have a skirt inside her closet, ready to grace the wearer in every occasion. However, full figured women should carefully choose the right skirt that will emphasize her curves and provide a nice silhouette. Here are some skirts that works for plus size and full figured women:

Straight or slim skirt

Full-figured women have a natural ally in a slim or straight skirt. It has a narrow hem and emphasizes vertical detailing, allowing you to look slimmer and taller. A pear-shaped plus size woman can even wear it well provided that she has the right hem-skimming top. You must taper a slim skirt if you are pear-shaped to make it appear straight and flattering. A slim skirt is naturally wide in places where it should be wide and tapering it modestly allows it to give an impression of a narrower body, and that rule applies to all women, disregarding body sizes.

Trumpet skirt

A skirt that swings and out of fashion, it is a classic piece that fits right through the body and knee then flares out at the bottom, giving the look of a trumpet or a blossom. Although a trumpet skirt may not always be the fashion, it gives a plus size woman a wonderful silhouette, especially if it’s done right.

Trumpet skirt has many vertical seams but the style of its lines frames the body lines. It accentuates full, round hips. It’s like a slim skirt that is tapered at the knee and then bursts into a flourish of fullness without interrupting vertical seam lines. The flaring at the knee gives a defined silhouette. While the skirt needs to follow the contours of the body, it must not too shapeless or too tight or the special effect is ruined.

Pleated skirt

With the right size, length, and fabric, an all-around pleated skirt is a good option for plus size and full-figured women. An all-around knife pleats create an always alluring dancing movements. However, the pleats must lie flat against the widest part of the body, which is the hip, so the skirt won’t scream size when you are not moving. Look for a pleated skirt that is a size larger than you usually wear and comes in a fine and smooth fabric for that beautiful movement.

Aside from an all-around pleated skirt, soft-pleated skirt is a great wear for all body types. It has long vertical lines and additional play of such lines from the pleats. It also provides grace of movement and softness. For a soft-pleated skirt to work, it must be made from a supple fabric that drapes well.

Flared skirt

A bottom-heavy woman gets good silhouette from a flared or semicircle skirt. It also works well in soft fabrics like all full skirts, and also needs length to balance with the width of the fabric. A flared skirt emphasizes the body lines with its natural style lines. For added height, go for skirt with gores to get the benefit of vertical seam lines.
