Prairie skirt is an American version of the skirt. Prairie skirts were quite similar to the traditional dirndls, except that prairie skirt has flounces at their end. Since the introduction of prairie skirts it is believed that the prairie skirts were the simplified version of the flared, ruffled skirts of the 1820s.
