Many full-figured women avoid wearing dresses and skirts because they usually end up looking wider, taller, or even shorter than they usually are. One must remember that wearing a dress or skirt should be considered thoughtfully, especially if you want to create a feminine and graceful silhouette that flatters your curves. Some plus size women also have body curves issues like having a heavy top and short waist or unusually low or high hips. Here are some tips to consider if you want to wear a dress or a skirt that emphasizes your assets.
Short-waisted
If you have a big bust and a short waist, you don’t need to always dress in separate pieces of clothes. You can wear dresses with waistlines as well. Up front, a waistline in a dress falls on its natural position. However, there is an excess of fabric at the back. While a small amount of excess fabric gives a rather flattering look, a large amount can throw off the line of the dress top. Wear a dress that has a wider and shorter bodice that wraps all around the waistline. A longer one that blouses more evenly and a dropped waist dress are also suitable for full-size women.
Unusually high waist
Women with an unusually high waist will look best in a slim skirt. However, the right fit for a high hip is rather difficult to find. If you like to wear a slim skirt that fits your hips just right, look for a skirt with an all-elastic waistband. Its constructions allow a sudden drop, releasing the skirt’s full width on the hip.
A dirndl skirt also works for high-waisted women for the purpose. However, it may need to be tapered and pleated to make it suitable for generous walking. If a dirndl skirt is not tapered, it might give off a very unflattering silhouette.
A trouser skirt with front pleats give off nice silhouettes as well, only the pleats need to be fully release from the waistband and are not partially stitch down to make the trouser skirt work.
Low hips
Low hips need the most careful fit. Find a skirt or dress that is not baggy but with enough ease on the thigh area. A soft pleated skirt can do wonders to low hips as the pleats are close to the body and lie flat, giving a flowing a dancing movement every time you move. Just remember to find a soft pleated skirt with the pleats handing down in a straight line and that stay close to the body when you walk. One size larger soft pleated skirt is worth the look.
Softness, both of the dress and skirt style lines and fabric, is the trick of every clothes. A soft fabric drapes easily and accentuates the hips and thighs. It also provides a nice silhouette since it follows the natural curves of the wearer. In addition, don’t go for dresses and skirts that pull as it interrupts the drapes and introduces a horizontal line. Have it altered to fit you better or risk being a size wider than you really are.
